Six people were taken to a hospital with serious injuries on Saturday evening after a crash involving five vehicles, including a semi truck, shut down the westbound lanes of Highway 380 in Denton, police said.
Denton police and fire crews responded around 7:30 p.m. Saturday to a major crash in the 8400 block of West University Drive at Willow Lane, near the Parker House haunted attraction, FOX 4 reported. The call came in at about 7:29 p.m., on Halloween night.
All three westbound lanes closed
First responders treated multiple victims at the scene, and six people were taken to a local hospital with serious injuries, FOX 4 reported. Denton police confirmed on Saturday night that six people had been transported, according to local reporting from the scene.
All three westbound lanes of Highway 380 were shut down near the intersection while officers and emergency crews cleared debris and worked the scene. Drivers were urged to seek alternate routes.
A later report from NBC 5 put the number of people hospitalized at 10. Police had not published a reconciled count by Sunday evening, and this report uses the count of six that Denton police confirmed on Saturday night.
Cause still under investigation
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by Denton police. Police have not said what set off the chain of collisions, and they have not released the names or the conditions of the injured people beyond describing their injuries as serious.
The reports do not say which vehicle struck first, whether the semi truck driver was among the people taken to a hospital, or when the closed lanes reopened. U.S. 380 is the main east west highway across Denton County, so a full westbound closure on a Saturday night pushes traffic onto city streets and farm to market roads across the west side of the city.
The crash happened next to one of Denton's best known Halloween attractions, on the night the attraction draws its Halloween crowds. West University Drive is the Highway 380 corridor through the west side of Denton, a divided highway that carries heavy evening traffic between Denton and the growing suburbs to the east.
A law firm analysis of Texas crash records counted 415 reported crashes on U.S. 380 in Denton County in the first nine months of 2026, a reminder of how much traffic the corridor now carries. None of that explains Saturday's crash. That answer is still with Denton police.
