A 19-year-old man was shot and killed early Sunday in what San Antonio police described as a road rage shooting on the city's South Side, and the people who fired the shots had not been caught by Sunday evening.
Police said the shooting happened around 3:30 a.m. Sunday in the 200 block of Teresa Street. Officers first responded to a shooting call in the 500 block of Pleasanton Road, and while they were on the way they learned that the wounded man was already being taken to a hospital, KTSA reported.
What police say happened
A vehicle occupied by three men opened fire at the back of another vehicle, according to the San Antonio Police Department. The 19-year-old was sitting in the front passenger seat of the vehicle that was hit, and he was struck by the gunfire.
The driver of the struck vehicle drove the wounded passenger to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said. Officers later found that vehicle at an emergency entrance on Cupples Road, KTSA reported.
KTSA reported that officers were first sent to the 500 block of Pleasanton Road, and the investigation moved from there to Teresa Street, where the shots were fired, and to the emergency entrance on Cupples Road, where officers found the struck vehicle.
No arrests and no suspect descriptions
San Antonio police told KSAT that no suspect information is available and no arrests have been made. KTSA reported that police have not released descriptions of the suspects. The department is investigating the shooting as a murder, and the investigation remains ongoing.
Police have not released the name of the man who was killed.
What police have not said
Neither report describes the vehicle the three men were in, and police have not said what started the confrontation on the road, whether the people in the two vehicles knew each other, or whether any earlier argument or chase came before the shots. As of Sunday evening, the dead man's name, the make of either vehicle, and any description of the suspects were still unreleased, and no reward or public tip line had been announced in the reports.
The killing was one of several shootings San Antonio police handled over the Halloween weekend. KSAT reported that a man was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after he was shot in the chest following a fight on the Southeast Side, and that a 16-year-old boy was found dead in the middle of the road after a shooting on the East Side on Friday night, in the 4900 block of Bayhead Drive.
