Crowds scattered as the street closed

University suspends Monday classes
The University of Delaware suspended all classes, in person and online, for Monday, November 2. President Laura Carlson, Interim Provost Bill Farquhar and executive vice president Ellen Herbst told the campus community the pause would give students, faculty and staff time "to rest, process, and connect with support," and stressed that the decision was not based on a safety concern. The campus stays open, with dining halls and services running, walk-in counseling at Warner Hall on Monday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and TimelyCare available around the clock. The university is closed on Tuesday, November 3, for Election Day, so classes resume on Wednesday, November 4.
Officials react and police seek tips
Governor Matt Meyer condemned the shooting in a statement on Sunday. "No family should have to receive the call that someone they love has been shot. This is not normal. We must never accept gun violence as a part of life in Delaware," he said. State Representatives Mara Gorman and Cyndie Romer, whose districts include the campus, called Main Street "the heart of our community" and urged anyone with information to come forward. Police ask witnesses and anyone with photos or video to contact Detective Paige Klein at (302) 366-7100, extension 3480.
