Four people were arrested after a shooting killed a 35 year old man early Sunday, November 1, at an apartment complex in Pearland, Texas, police said. Officers were dispatched around 4:56 a.m. to the 2400 block of Business Center Drive after reports of a disturbance near the apartment complex pool and gunfire, according to the Pearland Police Department.
At the scene, officers found Shane Chambers suffering from a gunshot wound. He died despite life saving efforts by officers, FOX 26 Houston reported. KPRC 2 placed the scene on Business Center Drive near State Highway 288 and Magnolia Road and put the police response at around 5 a.m.
What investigators say happened
Investigators said Jamica Delance Scott, 32, went to an apartment where his ex-girlfriend lives and became involved in a disturbance there, FOX 26 reported. Two men inside the apartment tried to flee by jumping from a second story balcony.
Scott then went downstairs and fired a gun, striking Chambers, according to investigators. Police have not said what the disturbance was about, and they have not described any relationship between Scott and Chambers in the accounts released Sunday.
The stop and the arrests
After the shooting, Scott entered a vehicle and tried to leave the area before officers stopped him, investigators said. Police said officers stopped a vehicle believed to be connected to the shooting and detained all four suspects.
FOX 26 reported that the four people arrested face murder charges. Police have not released the names of the other three people in the accounts published Sunday, and the department has not announced bond amounts or first court dates for any of the four.
What is still unknown
The investigation remains active, police said. Detectives have not said how many shots were fired, whether anyone else was hurt, or whether the two men who jumped from the balcony were injured. Police also have not said whether Chambers lived at the complex.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Pearland Police Department tip line at 281-997-4211, the department said.
