Paris Saint-Germain beat Villarreal 6-0 at the Estadio de la Ceramica on Tuesday night in Matchday 4 of the Champions League league phase, and the match was settled inside the first quarter of an hour. The European champions scored four times in the first 17 minutes, the fastest four-goal start in the history of the competition, and added two more after the break.

Joao Neves opened the scoring in the 9th minute, set up by Willian Pacho. Desire Doue made it 2-0 in the 12th minute from a Maghnes Akliouche pass. Senny Mayulu scored the third a minute later. Fabian Ruiz got the fourth in the 17th minute, again from Akliouche. The fourth goal went in after 16 minutes and 2 seconds, the fastest any team has scored four goals in a Champions League match, according to Opta figures reported by Reuters.

A record set without two stars

The speed of the start was more striking for who was missing. PSG played without Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and without Ousmane Dembele, the 2025 Ballon d'Or winner, both out injured, according to Reuters. It made no difference. Luis Enrique's side were already the leading scorers in this season's competition before kickoff, with 14 goals in their first three matches, and they played the rest of the night at their own pace.

Fabian Ruiz scored his second of the night in the 50th minute, from a Vitinha pass at a set piece, and substitute David Boly added the sixth in the 78th minute, set up by Neves. Villarreal finished with 25 percent of possession, according to match statistics published by theScore, and never found a reply.

Four wins from four

The result keeps PSG perfect in the league phase: four matches, four wins, 12 points, at the top of the standings. Villarreal stay on 3 points from four matches, with one win and three defeats, and their margin for error in the remaining league phase fixtures is now small. The four-goal burst is also the story of the night across Europe. No team in the history of the Champions League had ever scored four goals that fast, and PSG did it away from home, against a side playing in its own stadium, with two of their best attackers in the stands.
