The Arizona Cardinals placed rookie running back Jeremiyah Love on injured reserve on Tuesday, November 3, the team move that had been expected since he limped out of Sunday's win over Dallas. Love will miss at least the next four games with a high ankle sprain in his right ankle, NBC Sports reported. Wide receiver Kendrick Bourne also went on injured reserve on Tuesday. Bourne has a fractured tibia and is out for the season.

Love was hurt early in the Cardinals 33-30 overtime win over the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, November 1, when his leg was trapped under a tackle, the Arizona Republic reported. The sprain is a new injury. It is not the ankle sprain that kept him out of the two games before Dallas, and it is not the preseason sprain either. NFL Network reporter Ian Rapoport reported Love is expected to miss four to five weeks. He can first come off injured reserve in Week 13, ahead of the Cardinals Week 14 bye, so a Week 15 return may be more likely, the Arizona Republic reported.

A rookie season spent on the training table

The Cardinals took Love with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2026 draft out of Notre Dame, and ankles have shaped his whole first season. He came back in Week 1 from a preseason ankle sprain and played the first five weeks. He hurt the other ankle in Week 2 and played through it for four weeks before the pain forced the team to shut him down for two games. On the season he averages 3.5 yards per carry, with 11 catches for 36 yards and two touchdowns, one rushing and one receiving, the Arizona Republic reported. He has played more than half the snaps in only one game.

Bourne is done for the year

Bourne went down late in the first half against Dallas with 21 seconds left before halftime. ESPN reported on Monday, November 2, that he had fractured his tibia, that the injury needs no surgery, and that a three month absence ends his season. Tuesday's injured reserve move made it official. The Cardinals signed wide receiver Harrison Wallace III from the practice squad to the active roster in his place, NBC Sports reported. The team also brought veteran tight end Rivaldo Fairweather back to the practice squad.

Who carries the ball now

Arizona has not added a running back yet, and the move leaves one open spot on the 53 man roster, the Arizona Republic reported. Tyler Allgeier and Bam Knight will lead the backfield while Love is out. Knight is in concussion protocol, so Allgeier may carry most of the work in Week 9 against the Seattle Seahawks. Evan Hull is the other running back on the active roster, and Jerome Ford is on the practice squad. Head coach Mike LaFleur said Monday that Love's injury sits in a new portion of the ankle and that he would know more later in the week.
