Inter answered a bruising weekend with the sharpest away performance of their Champions League season, beating Feyenoord 3-0 at De Kuip on Tuesday night. Yann Bisseck scored after eight minutes, Francesco Pio Esposito headed a second on 34 minutes, and Piotr Zielinski closed the game out nine minutes after the break.

The win came two days after Inter lost the Milan derby, and it never looked in doubt once Bisseck struck. The centre back pressed high, won the ball back, turned between two defenders and swept a left-foot finish into the far bottom corner. It was his first Champions League goal, and it set the tone for a first half Inter controlled.

Esposito takes his chance

With Lautaro Martinez absent, Esposito led the line and took the chance the night offered. Djed Spence, who had already created the opener, drove down the right and stood up a deflected cross. Esposito fought to the ball and headed in off the underside of the crossbar from close range, despite Feyenoord complaints about the contact in the build-up.

Zielinski had twice gone close before half time, drilling one effort wide and forcing a save from distance. Nine minutes into the second half he got the goal his night deserved, collecting a pass from Nicolo Barella and firing a fierce shot in off the post from the edge of the area. Esposito thought he had a second on 66 minutes, tapping in a Federico Dimarco cross, but the flag ruled it offside.

What the result means

Inter extended their unbeaten run against Dutch clubs in the Champions League to 14 matches, with 11 wins and three draws. The away form in Europe still needs work: this was only their second win in their last five Champions League away games, with three defeats in that run. But a 3-0 win at De Kuip, a ground that rarely stays quiet, is the kind of result that steadies a league phase campaign.

For Feyenoord, the night was a flat one. The home side created little of note, and goalkeeper Tjark Ernst did well to keep the score at three with stops from Dimarco and Marcus Thuram. Two goals down at home before half time is a hard place to come back from against an Inter side this organised.

Inter head coach Cristian Chivu got the response he needed after the derby. Bisseck was named man of the match, and the clean sheet travelled home with the three points.
