Sellers runs the show
Sellers completed 19 of 24 passes for 301 yards and three touchdowns, his highest passing total of the season, and he carried the ball 13 times for 96 yards and two more touchdowns. It was the second straight game in which he accounted for five touchdowns.
His 84 yard touchdown pass to DJ Black early in the second quarter stretched the lead to 21-7. Late in the third quarter he scored on an 11 yard run to make it 35-10. Oklahoma finally reached the end zone on offense early in the fourth quarter, and Sellers answered at the 13:13 mark by escaping pressure and hitting Mazeo Bennett Jr. for a 79 yard touchdown that pushed the score to 42-16. South Carolina ran for 212 yards as a team.
Oklahoma's defense scores first
Oklahoma's first touchdown came from its defense. Linebacker Kip Lewis intercepted a Sellers pass under pressure and returned it 30 yards for a touchdown that tied the game 7-7 in the first quarter. Sellers threw two interceptions on the night, but the Oklahoma offense could not turn its chances into points and did not score a touchdown of its own until the fourth quarter.
John Mateer finished 26 of 43 for 244 yards and two touchdowns, both to Ivan Carreon in the fourth quarter. The first, at the 14:53 mark, cut the lead to 35-16 after the conversion failed. Tate Sandell added a 34 yard field goal with 9:46 left to make it 42-19, and Carreon's second touchdown catch brought Oklahoma to 42-25 after a failed two point try.
A second South Carolina rout in Norman
The 521 yards were the most an Oklahoma defense has allowed since Texas gained 527 against the Sooners in 2023, according to Sports Illustrated. It was also the second time in three seasons that South Carolina has won big in Norman, after a 35-9 win there in 2024.
South Carolina heads into November on a three game winning streak, playing its best football of the season. Oklahoma, coached by Brent Venables, has a month left to steady a season that has swung between wins and losses all year.
