What is at stake

Utah arrives at 5-0 and owns the top scoring offense and the top scoring defense in the Big 12. The Utes won 41-24 at Kansas on Oct. 10 in their last game.

Colorado is 2-3 and back from a bye week. The Buffaloes are trying to end a three game losing run and pick up their first conference win of the season. Head coach Deion Sanders called Utah the toughest team Colorado will face all year. Quarterback Isaac Wilson starts again for Colorado. In his last game, against Texas Tech, he threw three interceptions on 44 pass attempts.

Utah won the last meeting between the teams, 53-7, last season.

The matchup

This is a Big 12 conference game, and the two teams arrive at it from opposite ends of the conference form table. Utah's 5-0 start has been built on balance: the Utes own the top scoring offense and the top scoring defense in the Big 12, and their last outing was a 41-24 win at Kansas on Oct. 10. Folsom Field, Colorado's home stadium in Boulder, sits at altitude, and visiting teams have long had to adjust to it, but Utah is a mountain school itself and plays at altitude at home in Salt Lake City.

Colorado's problems have been at quarterback and in close games. The Buffaloes come off their bye week at 2-3, on a three game losing run, and still without a conference win. Isaac Wilson starts again at quarterback after a hard night against Texas Tech, when he threw three interceptions on 44 pass attempts. Head coach Deion Sanders did not hide the size of the task before the game, calling Utah the toughest team Colorado will face all year. The recent history points the same way: Utah won the last meeting between the teams 53-7 last season.

How it finished

Utah won 27-24, but the unbeaten record survived a real scare. The Utes led 13-0 at half time and looked in control, only for Colorado to score 17 straight points in the third quarter and take the lead. Devon Dampier then threw two touchdown passes to Braden Pegan, one late in the third quarter and the winner with 3:46 left, and Utah survived a last Colorado drive.

The win takes Utah to 6-0 overall and 3-0 in the Big 12. Colorado falls to 2-4 and 0-3 in the conference, still chasing the first conference win this preview pointed to, after coming within one drive of taking down the No. 11 team in the country.
