Victor Wembanyama scored 43 points with six blocks as the San Antonio Spurs beat the Minnesota Timberwolves 121-111 at Frost Bank Center in San Antonio on Saturday night, October 31.
San Antonio led 34-28 after the first quarter, but Minnesota won the second quarter 33-26 and led 61-60 at halftime. The Spurs took the game back after the break, winning the third quarter 33-27 and the fourth 28-23. San Antonio outscored Minnesota 61-50 in the second half and turned a one-point deficit into a 10-point win.
A career high in shots
Wembanyama made 17 of 34 shots, a career high for attempts, and hit three three-pointers. He finished with 43 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 steal and 6 blocks in 33 minutes and 45 seconds. He had 21 points by late in the second quarter, and one of his baskets came on an off-the-glass self-pass dunk in that quarter.
It was the 10th 40-point game of his career. With 43 points and six blocks, he joined Bob McAdoo and Kristaps Porzingis as the only players in NBA history with 40 or more points and 6 or more blocks in a game before turning 23.
Help from Harper and Fox
Wembanyama did not carry the scoring alone. Dylan Harper scored 25 points and De'Aaron Fox scored 22 for San Antonio, season highs for both players. Their scoring gave the Spurs three players over 20 points on a night when the game stayed close into the second half.
Minnesota played without Rudy Gobert, who was out with a back problem, and without Anthony Edwards. Even short-handed, the Timberwolves led at halftime and kept the margin at six points after three quarters before San Antonio closed the game out in the fourth.
By the numbers
The box score shows how much of the offense ran through Wembanyama. His 34 shot attempts were a career high, and his 17 made shots produced nearly a third of San Antonio's 121 points on their own, before his four assists are counted. His six blocks were the defensive side of the same night, and they came in under 34 minutes on the court.
The team numbers show the swing of the game just as clearly. Minnesota's best quarter was the second, when it scored 33 points and took the halftime lead. San Antonio's best stretch came after halftime, when it scored 33 points in the third quarter and 28 in the fourth while holding Minnesota to 27 and then 23.
Fourth straight win
San Antonio improved to 4-2 with its fourth straight win after opening the season 0-2. Minnesota fell to 4-3 with the loss.
Up next, San Antonio hosts the Utah Jazz on Monday, November 2, 2026. Minnesota hosts the Milwaukee Bucks the same night.
