A 21-year-old man was critically injured in a cutting in a downtown Omaha parking garage early on Saturday morning, and Omaha police arrested one man in the case.
Police responded to the cutting at about 1:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 31, according to KETV, the ABC affiliate in Omaha. KETV placed the garage near 10th Street and Capitol Avenue. Officers found a 21-year-old man at the scene, and the station reported him critically injured.
What the two stations reported
WOWT, the NBC affiliate in Omaha, reported the same incident from the police account. The station said the incident happened just after 1:30 a.m. on Saturday at 12th and Capitol Avenue, two blocks west of the location in the KETV report. WOWT said one person was sent to the hospital and another was arrested. The two reports agree on the time, the victim's age, the hospital trip and the arrest. They differ only on which end of the Capitol Avenue block the garage sits on, and neither report named the garage.
What police have not said yet
The first reports did not name the man who was arrested, list any charges against him, or name the 21-year-old who was hurt. Police did not say in those reports what led to the cutting, whether the two men knew each other, or which hospital treated the injured man. A cutting investigation of this kind usually turns on what officers find in the garage and what the injured man can tell them, and Omaha police had announced no further details by the time the two stations published on Saturday afternoon.
A second downtown incident the same morning
The cutting was not the only downtown call in that hour. KETV reported separately that Omaha police arrested a suspect after a shooting near 11th and Howard Streets early on Saturday morning, where officers were in the area around 1 a.m. and a man was injured following reported gunfire. Police have not said the two incidents are connected, and the two locations are several blocks apart in the downtown core. The Orbit Post is treating the Howard Street shooting as a separate incident and will report it on its own facts when a second source confirms them.
Anyone with information about the cutting can contact Omaha Crime Stoppers at 402-444-STOP, the number Omaha police publish for anonymous tips in cases under investigation.
