Kathynmarissa won the Maker's Mark Breeders Cup Filly and Mare Turf at Keeneland on Saturday, October 31, 2026, flying home late to pass Gimme A Nother at the finish and lead home a United States trained one two in the Grade 1 race. The 5-year-old mare won in 1:53.75 under jockey Jose Ortiz, and the result gave trainer Chad Brown his seventh win in this race while ending the unbeaten season of the European favorite Blue Bolt.

The Europeans beaten

Blue Bolt came into the race as the horse to beat. Trained by Andrew Balding, the European favorite had won four straight Group One races this season, and she and Precise had taken centre stage in the build up while Kathynmarissa waited outside the main talk. On the day, Kathynmarissa used a closing kick in the home stretch, picked up ground late, and flew home strongly to pass Gimme A Nother at the finish. Gimme A Nother held second, and Jancis, trained by Willie McCreery, was the best of the Europeans in third. USA Today listed the result the same way: Kathynmarissa first, Gimme A Nother second, Jancis third.

After the race, Brown pointed to stamina and to his rider. "You have to have mile-and-a-quarter stamina to run this trip. Jose knows this filly and knew enough not to give up on her. He got clear sailing and she picked up the bit again and really came home," Brown said.

The winner

Kathynmarissa is a 5-year-old mare by American Pharoah out of La Dalila. She is trained by Chad C. Brown for owners Michael Dubb and Michael J. Caruso, and she was bred by Don Alberto Corporation. The race was Keeneland Race 7 on Saturday, run at 1 3/16 miles on turf for fillies and mares three years old and up, with a purse of $2,000,000. Kathynmarissa started from post 5 at odds of 5/1, with Jose L. Ortiz aboard, and she stopped the clock at 1:53.75.

A season that built to this

The Keeneland win was not a one off result. Earlier in 2026, Kathynmarissa had won the Modesty Stakes, a Grade 3, at Churchill Downs, the Diana Stakes, a Grade 1, at Saratoga, and the Flower Bowl Stakes, a Grade 2, at Belmont Park. The Breeders Cup win is the biggest of that run, and it is also close to the end of her racing story in its current form. After the Breeders Cup, she is due to be sold at the Fasig-Tipton November Sale on November 2 as hip 208, the final horse in that sale. She goes there as a Breeders Cup winner, with a seventh win in the Filly and Mare Turf for her trainer now on the record.
