No. 4 Indiana beat Minnesota 23-16 in overtime on Saturday, October 31, 2026, at Memorial Stadium in Bloomington, Indiana. Grant Wilson threw a 25-yard touchdown pass to Charlie Becker in overtime, Nico Radicic kicked the extra point, and Minnesota's last possession ended with a sack on fourth down.
The finish followed a fourth quarter that turned on long field goals. Luke Drzewiecki kicked a 60-yard field goal with 19 seconds left to give Minnesota a 16-13 lead. Paddy McAteer answered with a 60-yard field goal as time expired to tie the game 16-16 and force overtime.
A fourth quarter decided by kickers
Minnesota took control of the quarter first. Drzewiecki kicked a 51-yard field goal with 11:49 left to give Minnesota a 13-10 lead. Radicic tied the game 13-13 with a 34-yard field goal with 3:05 left.
That set up the closing exchange. Drzewiecki's 60-yard kick with 19 seconds left looked like the winner for Minnesota. Indiana still had one play left in it, and McAteer's 60-yard kick as the clock ran out sent the game to overtime at 16-16.
In overtime, Indiana scored seven points and Minnesota scored none. Wilson found Becker for 25 yards and the touchdown, and Radicic added the extra point. Minnesota quarterback Drake Lindsey was sacked by Tobi Osunsanmi on fourth down on the answering possession, and the play by play then listed the end of the game.
Wilson takes over after Hoover is hurt
Indiana played the second half with a backup quarterback. Starter Josh Hoover did not start the second half and was replaced by Grant Wilson after Hoover was shaken up on a hit late in the first half. Hoover finished the first half 8 of 19 passing for 119 yards with one touchdown and one interception.
Hoover had been battling an injury to his throwing arm. He was not listed on the availability report before the game, and he was shaken up on a blindside hit that was flagged for a penalty just before halftime.
Head coach Curt Cignetti spoke to CBS before the second half, as reported by USA Today. "We're down three points, not 30. We've just lost our minds," Cignetti said.
How the game reached that finish
Minnesota led 10-7 at halftime. Lindsey threw a 39-yard touchdown pass to Roman Voss on a flea flicker to put Minnesota in front.
Indiana's first touchdown was a 9-yard pass from Hoover to Nick Marsh. It came two plays after Byron Baldwin forced a fumble that Josh Burnham recovered and returned to the Minnesota 14-yard line.
Indiana also had a difficult day on special teams in regulation, apart from McAteer's tying kick. Radicic missed two field goals, one of them blocked, and a third attempt was spoiled by a bad snap and a botched hold, according to the IndyStar summary.
The teams entered the game with Minnesota at 5-2 overall and 3-1 in the Big Ten, and Indiana at 7-1 overall and 4-1 in the Big Ten, according to the records listed in the IndyStar report. The quarter scores were Minnesota 3, 7, 0, 6 and 0 in overtime, and Indiana 7, 0, 3, 6 and 7 in overtime.
