Shootings across the United States over Halloween weekend killed at least 13 people and injured 92 others, according to a preliminary tally published by CNN on Monday, based in part on counts from the nonprofit Gun Violence Archive. USA Today, counting incidents reported across 11 states, put the death toll higher, at at least 15 people. Both outlets said the lists are not complete.
The shootings happened at Halloween parties, outside a college football stadium, on college town streets, in nightclubs and inside two Halloween costume stores. Delaware Governor Matt Meyer said in a statement after two shootings in his state: "This is not normal. We must never accept gun violence as a part of life in Delaware."
Dallas was the deadliest scene
In Dallas, three shootings in the Deep Ellum nightlife district, east of downtown, began just after midnight early on Nov. 1 and left four people killed and at least 15 others injured, police said. Dallas Police Chief Daniel Comeaux said extra officers were already patrolling the area for Halloween events, and he said the injury count was "still moving a little bit" because some people took themselves to hospitals. Police said the three incidents showed no sign of being connected.
