Three people were taken to a hospital Monday evening after two suspects shot them at an apartment complex in Converse, and police were still searching for the suspects on Tuesday, Converse police said.

The shooting on FM 78

Converse police officers answered a 911 call at about 8 p.m. Monday for a shooting in the 9200 block of FM 78, at the Waterford Apartments, next to St. Monica Catholic Church. George Shaw, a lieutenant with the Converse Police Department, said officers first found a man and a woman, both in their 20s, with gunshot wounds at the complex.

Police later confirmed on Monday night that a third man had also been shot. All three were taken to a hospital. Their conditions were not immediately available, and police had not released an update on their conditions by Tuesday afternoon.

Two suspects still at large

Shaw said police believe two suspects shot the three people. KTSA reported the same account on Tuesday, saying at least two suspects opened fire at the complex on Monday night and that the suspects remained at large.

No description of the suspects had been released in the reports read on Tuesday, and police did not say in those reports what led up to the shooting, whether the suspects and the people who were shot knew each other, or how the suspects left the area. No arrests had been reported by Tuesday afternoon.

Converse is a city in Bexar County on the northeast side of the San Antonio area, and FM 78 is one of its main roads, lined with apartment complexes, churches and small businesses. A shooting at a large complex on that road drew officers from across the city on a Monday night, a time when many residents are at home.

Police have not said whether they believe there is any wider danger to people who live near the complex. Anyone with information about the shooting, or who saw anything in the 9200 block of FM 78 around 8 p.m. Monday, should contact the Converse Police Department. Tips given directly to the department help investigators test what witnesses saw against the physical evidence at the scene.

The investigation is active. Orbit Post will update this report in place if police release suspect descriptions, announce an arrest, or give the conditions of the three people who were shot.
