Cevin Fisher, the New Jersey-born house DJ and producer, died aged 63 on Thursday, October 29, 2026, after a brief battle with cancer. His family confirmed the death in a statement released on Friday, October 30. Fisher died three days after his 63rd birthday.

Fisher, whose birth name was Kevin Fisher, worked in dance music for four decades. He started as a teenage DJ in New Jersey, moved to New York and worked as a studio engineer, and broke through as a producer in the late 1990s with records that crossed from American clubs into the UK charts. His family said he is survived by his wife Theresa and his children.

From his father's bar to Club Zanzibar

Fisher was born in East Orange, New Jersey, on October 26, 1963. He began DJing in his father's bar, and at 17 he landed his first residency at Club Zanzibar. The residency put him to work in front of club crowds while he was still a teenager, and DJing stayed at the center of his career from that point on.

Studio work in New York

Fisher later moved to New York and worked as an engineer at Arthur Baker's Shakedown Studio and with Motown. His studio work included remixing Chaka Khan and Quincy Jones. One of those remixes, I'll Be Good to You, reached number one on the US Billboard Dance Chart, a result that showed his production work could carry a record to the top of the American dance listings.

The records that broke through

His breakthrough as an artist in his own right came in the late 1990s. Recording under his Big Freak alias, he released The Freaks Come Out, and in 1999 he followed it with (You Got Me) Burnin' Up. Both singles crossed into the UK charts. EDM House Network reported that his run of releases brought him two number one hits on the US Dance Club Songs chart.

Fisher kept recording in his later years. His recent releases included Move That Body, a collaboration with Danny Tenaglia, along with Feeling All The Pressure and Everyday, released on Jack Said What. The recent work closed a career that had run from teenage club sets in New Jersey to chart records on both sides of the Atlantic.

What his family and peers said

In their statement, his family remembered the man behind the records. "Beyond his professional achievements, Kevin was known among family and friends for his kindness, infectious sense of humour, and warm personality," the family said.

DJ and producer Louie Vega paid tribute in a message shared by DJ Mag Asia. "My deepest condolences to the family and friends of Cevin. We will miss him, so kind, humble and super talented. We love you Cevin. Rest in peace," Vega said.
